The formulation of research priorities in health sciences

Generally speaking, Societies are facing a range of healthcare challenges imposed by civilizational transformation and the adoption of modern technology on the human race, affecting societies’ growth and stability. As healthcare is one of the important pillars for the society sustainable development, the World Health Organization (WHO) ambitious goals are to make health care (in its broadest sense i.e. prevention and treatment) available of for everyone, this requires education and research institutions to extract the research priorities that must be taken into consideration and be committed to it, so that they produce and employ knowledge and the rationalization of disbursement to serve the needs and goals of the community, and thus, push progress journey towards a better tomorrow by evoking the past, understanding the present and looking ahead for the future.

The Libyan International Medical University (LIMU) has adopted the formulation of research priorities in health sciences in order to guide the path of scientific research by highlighting specific areas annually to be selected within the general framework of priorities, stimulating researchers to study these areas and seek to employ their results.

At the same time, leaving an open window to accommodate a limited number of other researches that address different aspects of sciences, i.e. researches that are unique in terms of quality, cost, and feasibility.

Health research priorities are divided into the following items:

1: Social Studies

2: Healthcare.

3: Research on drugs/medications, pharmaceutical/food control, and cosmetics.

4: Environmental pollution control.

5: Common Diseases.

6: Nutrition Researches.

7: Improving health education programs and manpower development.

8: Occupational Health and Industrial Medicine.
